Bible verses about honoring your father and mother

Bible verses about honoring your father and mother

When we open the Bible, we find that “honoring your parents” is not only a moral requirement but also a promise from God about “love and life.”

“Honor your father and mother”—which is the first commandment with a promise— “so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:2-3)

Each of you must respect your mother and father, and you must observe my Sabbaths. I am the Lord your God.” (Leviticus 19:3)

Listen to your father, who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old.” (Proverbs 23:22)

Honoring our parents is, in fact, a way for us to learn how to love others as God loves us. When we learn to respect our visible earthly father, we can better understand our invisible Father of all beings.

Reflect on the scripture: “Listen, my son, to your father’s instruction and do not forsake your mother’s teaching.” (Proverbs 1:8)
